Police still searching for baby Kate

LDN Staff -

Thursday, July 7, 2011

The investigation continues into the whereabouts of four-month-old KATHERINE SHELBIE-ELIZABETH PHILLIPS.

More searches have been conducted by members of local law enforcement agencies, various fire departments from Mason and surrounding counties, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Michigan State Police and the Michigan Department of Corrections Search Team. Each search effort requires the support the certified evidence techs as well as uniform police personnel in order to effectively identify and collect any evidence found during the search to be used in future prosecution.

The progress of the investigation has been hampered somewhat by “self-initiated and directed search teams”. Law enforcement personnel have been diverted away to other areas where individuals have located material that is not connected to the investigation.

We understand that many people would like to volunteer their efforts to find Baby Katherine. It has been extremely helpful to have these volunteers taking flyers to local businesses and interacting with shoppers and asking them to call in tip information. Thanks to the various local, state and federal agencies we have been able to conduct the necessary searches.

However, we are still in need of volunteers to make these citizen contacts. If anyone is able to help in this manner please come to the Ludington Police Department located at 408 S. Harrison St.

Investigators would still like to speak with anyone that saw SEAN MICHAEL PHILLIPS during the hours of 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29th, 2011. He was reported to have been seen at the Wendy’s Restaurant and near the Birch Lake Apartments during that time frame.
